Career path

Senior packaging designer: where I have worked, and what came out of it.

Each position below carries the job title, the period, what was genuinely mine and what was delivered, with figures wherever figures exist. The figures belong to the company they sit under and never travel from one to another.

In short

What packaging design experience does Hugo Zuffo have?

Hugo Zuffo is a senior packaging designer based in São Paulo, with more than 10 years in graphic design and more than 5 dedicated to end-to-end packaging. Since October 2023 he has been the sole packaging designer at Deca (Dexco S.A.), with more than 200 projects across five categories and more than 80 packs a year. In parallel, since January 2024, he designs premium spirits packaging for American and European brands with Think Bold Studio, in Portugal, in an entirely English-language workflow.

Before that: Nestlé Health Science, on the Nestlé Puravida line, where he restructured more than 150 SKUs for the 2023 rules of ANVISA, Brazil's health regulator; doTERRA International, as the sole designer of the Brazilian operation; and Pearson Latam, in editorial production and prepress at national scale. The work earned three WorldStar Packaging Awards in 2026, including the Special Award Marketing Gold.

Positions

Deca (Dexco S.A.)

October 2023 to present · São Paulo, Brazil · Full-time

Senior Packaging Designer, the only one at the brand

  • More than 200 projects across five categories, more than 80 packs a year, from the brief to print-ready artwork.
  • Packaging visual systems that scale by line and by category, across the Deca and Hydra brands.
  • Shelf research at the point of sale before any layout, with the competition bought and photographed.
  • The graphic decision, the information architecture and the artwork are mine; the structure and the die-line are developed with Deca's packaging engineering team.
  • Regulatory QA for ANVISA (Brazil's health regulator), Inmetro, barcode, net weight and batch, plus colour proofing and production follow-up.
  • Suppliers in Brazil and in China: specification, proof approval and quality control at a distance and in English.
  • Photorealistic 3D rendering for internal approval and e-commerce.
  • Recognition: 2 WorldStar 2026, the WorldStar Special Award Marketing Gold 2026, 2 Silvers at the Prêmio ABRE 2025, Bronze at the Brasil Design Award 2025, Design for a Better World 2025 and Grandes Cases de Embalagem 2025.

Think Bold Studio

January 2024 to present · Aveiro, Portugal · Remote

Packaging and label designer, ongoing collaboration

  • Packaging and label systems for premium spirits, whisky, gin and vodka, for brands in the United States and Europe.
  • An entirely English-language workflow, with the studio in Portugal and the client outside Brazil.
  • Luxury finishes with the production partner: hot stamping, embossing, spot UV, soft-touch and special papers.
  • It is the international proof in my career path, and the reason English is routine here rather than a line on a CV.

March 2022 to October 2023 · São Paulo, Brazil

  • Line architecture for a large supplement portfolio: labels, cartons, pouches and gift sets in one system.
  • Working alongside nutrition, regulatory affairs and marketing, which is where a compliance project either stalls or moves.

Packaging and artwork designer, the only one in the Brazilian operation

  • More than 15 kit solutions, from concept to production, for an American essential oils brand.

Graphic designer, editorial production and prepress

  • Layout and final files for educational material at national scale, on hard deadlines and with zero tolerance for a print error.
  • This is where the discipline I apply to packaging artwork today comes from: proof, colour profile and checklist before anything goes to the printer.

Technical capabilities

  • Reading the category at the point of sale, and the hierarchy the shopper actually uses to decide
  • Visual systems that hold up across a whole product line without breaking
  • Artwork and prepress. Print-ready files in AI or PDF X-1a
  • Hot stamping, embossing, speciality papers. Offset and flexography
  • Regulatory QA on both sides of the Atlantic: ANVISA and Inmetro in Brazil, PPWR in Europe. A non-negotiable checklist before release
  • Photorealistic 3D rendering for approval and e-commerce (Pacdora, Dimension)
  • Production with Asian suppliers: a good share of the packaging I design is manufactured in China, with specification, proofing and quality control run remotely and in English
